What is Torah?

The word Torah comes from the root word (yod-resh-hey) meaning "to shoot an arrow" or "to hit the mark." In the Old Testament, Torah in Hebrew is always translated by the Greek word nomos no,mos.
I like to think of it as the Operating Manual for the planet earth.

In the most general sense of the term, Torah can be understood as simply as instruction about how to live rightly before God and with mankind.
The basic guiding principle is to imitate our Heavenly Father. John 14:9

Psalm 19:7-12 from a literally expanded Hebrew

The instructions of our Heavenly Father are complete, no missing parts and provide what's needed to return a soul who has gone astray.
The witness of Yahweh is faithful and enduring, making wise the simple.
His precepts are equitable and just, rejoicing the heart.
The terms of the covenant between Him and myself are without any impurities.
Reverencing Yahweh has a cleansing effect that endures.
His judicial requirements are faithful into perpetuity.
More to be desired than gold...
Moreover, thy servant is forewarned and enlightened.
And in observing them, there is great reward.
Who can discern wandering off the straight and narrow path without them
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, Yahweh, my strength, and my redeemer.

Where to Begin?

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the instructions (Torah) of Yahweh; and in His instructions (Torah) doth he meditate day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. [Psalm 1:1-3]

The Most High's Perspective

Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, "Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people."
For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as Yahweh our Elohim is in all things that we call upon Him for?
And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law (Torah), which I set before you this day? [Deuteronomy 4:6-8]

Paul's Perspective - II Timothy 3:15-16

And that from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Yeshua the Messiah.

Prophecy

An interesting prophecy concerning Yeshua and the Torah...Isaiah 42 has been recognized (by Protestant Christian Scholarship) as a chapter speaking of the Messiah. Just reading the first 4 verses, one can detect that "my servant" (verse1) is not the Father but one who is to be sent and many verses in this chapter seem to be speaking about some aspect of what "this servant" will accomplish. If I am reading verse 21 correctly, this verse speaks about the work that Yeshua will do and if that is correct, it does align with a correct interpretation of the Greek word plhrw/sai in Matthew 5:17 since that verb is active and not passive.

"Yahweh was pleased for His righteousness' sake;
He [Yeshua] will magnify the Torah and make it honorable." [Isaiah 42:21]

Notice what it doesn't say...

Yeshua will magnify the Torah and make it honorable then do away with it.

In the Millennial Kingdom...

This is the Torah that all citizens of the Commonwealth of Israel will keep and all the Gentiles too when Yeshua becomes ruler of the world.
