While studying the Exodus and the time of Moses in the wilderness, there is a phrase that occurs four times: "strangers that sojourn among you", or the aliens (to Israel) that are now choosing to become a part of the Commonwealth of Israel.
Four things are asked of them when they first begin their citizenship: Three are singular and one is a group.
They are:
- 1. No sacrificing to idols (Lev. 17:8-9)
- 2. No drinking blood (Lev 17:10,12)
- 3. Drain the blood of food before eating (Lev 17:13)
- 4. Do not commit any of the listed sexual abominations
(Lev 18:26 which refers to Lev 18:6-23)
But it should be noted that over time, they were expected and required to learn and follow all the requirements of the Torah for they were to consider themselves as though they had been native born.
